Balance Through Ayurveda

What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian holistic healing system that
teaches us that true beauty and wellness come from balance. The word
"Ayurveda" comes from Sanskrit, where "Ayur" means life and
"Veda" means knowledge or science. Thus, Ayurveda is often referred
to as the "Science of Life." Ayurveda recognises that health is about
harmony with nature and it takes a personalised approach to each person’s
unique needs. Ayurveda is based on the belief that everything in nature is made up of three energies, known as doshas: Vata (air + ether), Pitta (fire + water), and Kapha (earth + water). Each of us has a unique combination of these doshas that govern our physical, emotional and mental states. When our doshas are in balance, we feel vibrant, grounded and alive in our natural flow. When imbalances arise, they reflect in our mind and body, including our hair and skin.
Each of us has a unique combination of these doshas and identifying which one is predominant in your body can help you understand your needs — including what your hair and skin needs.
THE THREE DOSHAS:
-
VATA (AIR & ETHER)

---
In Balance:

---
Out of Balance:

Body: joint pain, insomnia
Hair: dry, brittle, prone to frizz or breakage
Skin: excess dryness, rough, premature aging
-
PITTA (FIRE & WATER)
Nature: hot, sharp, intense, focused, ambitious
---
In Balance:
Mind: intelligent, courageous, decisive
Body: toned, strong metabolism
Hair: soft, silky,
Skin: warm, radiant, glowing
---
Out of Balance:
Mind: anger, irritability, jealousy, perfectionism
Body: inflammation, overheating
Hair: thinning, early greying, sensitivity to heat
Skin: acne, sensitivity, greasy
-
KAPHA (EARTH & WATER)
Nature: heavy, stable, nurturing, calm, slow
---
In Balance:
Mind: peaceful, loving, patient, grounded
Body: strong, steady energy
Hair: thick, lustrous, vibrant
Skin: smooth, well-hydrated, bright
---
Out of Balance:
Mind: lethargy, stubbornness, attachment
Body: sluggish digestion, congestion
Hair: oily scalp, heaviness, dandruff
Skin: excess oil, puffiness, congestion
In Ayurveda, our doshic balance is not fixed — it is a living, breathing rhythm that shifts with the seasons, our emotions, our life stages and even the time of day.
By tuning into ourselves with awareness and gentleness, we begin to notice the subtle patterns that rise and fall within. We may feel the restless winds of Vata stirring our thoughts, the sharp fire of Pitta intensifying our drive, or the slow waters of Kapha pooling into stillness. Each pattern carries a message, a mirror reflecting the state of our inner world.
Self-inquiry reveals these rhythms not as problems to fix, but as invitations to return to balance. The more we listen, the more we understand when to ground the airiness, cool the heat, or awaken the stagnation within. In this way, Ayurveda becomes not just a healing system, but a lifelong conversation with our ever-changing self.
